What’s a ‘Vintage Campervan Journal’ and How do I use it?

Have you ever tried to keep a journal when you go off travelling? I have and found that unless I wrote about something straight away, it’s gone out of my head within a day or so – however, give me prompts and it all comes flooding back!

We’ve designed a travel journal specifically for vintage campervan owners that love to get out and about in their vans and visit different destinations.

Let me explain what’s inside our Vintage Campervan Journal and why you need to get one!

Where did the Idea Come From?

If you read our blog then you’ll know that I designed a ‘Sailing Travel Journal‘ just before Christmas. I’ve had great fun filling it in with all the amazing places we visited last summer on our epic adventure and I can’t wait to get started again in Spring!

Anyway… I showed it to my Mum and she asked about one for Campervans (she has an old VW campervan called Alfie that she likes to go away in!) We were already thinking about making one having been on some epic campervan adventures before we bought our boat and it just confirmed to us it was a good idea to do it and so here they are!

We thought about what that we would want to remember on an adventure and everything we thought would be useful information to have and put it all together. This is what we came up with!

The Vintage Campervan Journal

Our Vintage Campervan Journal is a log book, diary and travel journal in one with a choice of unique, beautiful cover designs.

There are ten vintage and travel themed covers to choose from. Choose from stunning landscapes, colourful vintage patterns, old maps and bright geometric prints. There is sure to be something to suit everyone!

The Interior Pages

Inside the Front Cover

Inside the front cover the travel theme continues. On the front page there is space to fill in all the important details for you and your van incase you need to refer back to them at any point.

Index Pages

I thought it would be useful to have an index that you could use to quickly look up a campsite and turn to the correct page rather than having to flick through every time you wanted to check something. The star rating was included so you can see at a glance your favourite places to visit in case you want to go back there in future. There are two double page spreads in the journal – 100 slots in total to fill!

Campsite & Journey Records

The Campsite and Journey Records pages took a long time to get right. We thought long and hard about what would be useful information to record and what we’d want to remember about a visit somewhere.

Similar to the Sailing Travel Journal pages we have used the left hand page for all the facts and figures.

Very important to include was the Campsite name, address and cost. The information in this box can be written into the index to help you look it up easily in the future and written in prior to your trip if you pre-plan ahead. If it is a stop on a long journey it will be useful to have the address information to hand so you can put it straight into a sat nav (if you’re using one!) or give them a call if required. Use the stars at the top to give the campsite a rating at the end of your trip so you can easily look back and see if it’s worth another visit.

Then we left some space for the journey details such as mileage and the route you took. If you like to keep tabs on your fuel consumption and work out your mpg then this is the box to help!

Next is the spot to fill in any information about what facilities each place has available. This can be completed before a journey so you know what you’ll have available to you or just filled in once you reach your destination.

Something that everyone talks about in the UK is the weather. Whether it’s too hot, too cold, too windy, too rainy, not enough rain, too snowy… I could go on! We always find SOMETHING to say about it and couldn’t resist putting a section about it in. Weather can play a big part in how you experience somewhere so we couldn’t miss it out!

Always on the top of our list is what we can do when we get somewhere! We love to go out exploring places and if you have children with you then this section could be incredibly important! Fill it in before travelling so you know if you need to bring extra items to entertain yourselves with or once you get somewhere for future reference!

The right hand page is more of a diary format for you to jot down any notes and record your thoughts in more detail.

There is always something that stands out in your head when you visit a place (good or bad!). The Visit Highlights box is where to include those memories.

We always end up meeting people whenever we go away and sometimes we like to keep in touch with them afterwards. Whether you do or don’t like to, it’s nice to have a reminder of those who were around you on your trip! You can also put useful contacts here like a garage in case you need them (hopefully not!)

The Notes section is to write anything that won’t fit in anywhere else!

The To Do box is self explanatory! Whatever pops into your head or goes wrong on your trip – put it in here so you don’t forget to sort it at a later date!

There are 200 double page spreads like this for you to fill so you can plan and enjoy plenty of trips before you need your next book!

Fuel Log

An inevitable part of going on a road trip is needing fuel. Keep track of it all on these pages. Two double page spreads have been included in the book for you. The information you put in can be used in many ways such as working out your miles per gallon and also for maintenance as you keep track on the number of miles you’re doing.

Pre-Adventure Packing Checklist 1

I don’t know about you but whenever I go away somewhere, I always forget SOMETHING! I always consult at least one packing list to try and stop this from happening so we’ve included two double page spreads. We’ve tried to think of everything that you could possibly need but everyone is unique so we’ve also included lots of space for you to personalise the lists! Here’s to never forgetting anything important again!

Pre-Adventure Packing Checklist 2
Future Planning Pages

I can never stop dreaming about my next adventure and you never know when inspiration might strike. A double page spread has been included so you can keep tabs on all those awesome ideas and make them into a reality before you forget all about them!

The Covers

I had great fun making these covers. I have picked a wide range of images so there should be something for everyone! If there isn’t one you love – give me an idea of what you’d like and I’ll see what I can do!
